Durwood Zaelke and former Zelle Hofmann consultant, Scott Stone, were awarded two awards by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

2008 Climate Protection Award:
Zaelke and Stone were the driving force behind the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development's campaign to strengthen the Montreal Protocol in a way that maximizes its climate benefits. Their efforts helped raise awareness of the threats from the rising use of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in developing countries and played a key role in last year's historic agreement under the Montreal Protocol to accelerate the phaseout of HCFCs, resulting in significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. 2008 Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award:
Over the past two years, Zaelke and Stone have raised awareness among environmental leaders around the world of the need to accelerate the HCFC phaseout to ensure the continued success of the Montreal Protocol. Zaelke traveled around the globe to meet with industry and government officials to build support for tighter control measures on HCFC production and consumption.  Zaelke and Stone worked as advisors to several of the parties who submitted proposals to the Ozone Secretariat calling for an accelerated phaseout of HCFCs and authored several articles regarding this issue.
