Lawrence T. Hofmann

Larry's practice emphasizes complex business and insurance litigation. He has been involved in representing health insurers against tobacco companies, defense of financial services companies against purported class actions, insurance coverage disputes, and many securities cases, some of which involved hundreds of plaintiffs. In addition, he has represented such high profile clients as Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, General Mills, Starkey Laboratories, Inc., Beneficial Finance, HSBC, Wells Fargo Bank, and numerous other public and private companies.

Representative Matters

Adco Group et al. v. Travelers et al. (complex action involving the coordination of multiple lawsuits with over 25 parties, claims of $250 million in construction defects and damage at a luxury resort in Southern California, and involving issues regarding the extent of construction defects, their cause, damage allegedly resulting from the defects and its manifestation, as well as the calculation of the reasonable cost of repairing the property)

Menzel, et al. v. Beneficial Loan & Thrift, et al.  (defense of class action claiming violations of lending agreements and usury law)

Field v. Wells Fargo (defense of multimillion dollar securities law claims against financial advisory firm and corporate parent)

Kawulok v. Lowry Hill  (defense of financial advisory firm against claims brought by investor)

Deutsche Bank v. Allianz  (defense of first party property insurer against insured in major property insurance claim arising out of the 9/11 terrorist attack)

General Mills Inc. v. Gold Medal Ins. Co. (recovery of property insurance proceeds from first party reinsurers, involving Bermuda arbitration against reinsurers)

HealthPartners, Inc. v. Philip Morris, et al.  (pursuit of claims by health insurer against tobacco companies)
